Minutes of the “USATF Florida Executive Committee” Meeting

January 25, 2004     Spanish River High School

 Present: Robin Beamon, Pam Betz, Don DeNoon, Sandra DeNoon, Bob Fine, Jake Jacobson, Rod Larsen, Jan Parke, Rick Rothman and John TenBroeck.

 Absent: Lionel Bonck, Paul Elliott, Fran Fidler, Sonja Friend-Uhl, Louise Mead-Tricard, Chris Murray, Alex Smolka, and Jesus Virella.

 Guests: R.N. Ball

 Called to Order at 11:42 a.m.- a quorum being present.

Minutes:   Approved as published

Sanctions:   53 for 2004.  Only two groups have chosen not to join and paid the additional $100.  The rest totally understand and some even like the idea of joining.

Treasurer’s Report:  Balance on 1/20/04 $15,950.85

• Paul Gaulden has resigned – A search committee was appointed to find replacements for Men’s LDR and Race Walking committee Chairs (John, Robin and Jan) to report by March 1. The vacancies will be posted in Florida Running and Triathlon magazine and hopefully by email.
• Jake Jacobson wants to register in the Metropolitan Association – We approved his transfer.  He also, resigned his position as Race Walking Chair.
• LDR circuit for Sanctioned races only (approved 8/23, restated 11/2). It was reiterated that money is to be spent only on USATF Sanctioned events. 
• Sponsors and Fund Raiser – RN called the person Louise located and he has not returned R.N.’s calls.  When contacted RN will forward his resume to the selection committee.
• Individual and Club Membership Income and Expense Reports will be done on a monthly basis and Robin will provided an updated report for 2003: 1 Nov. 2002 thru 31 Oct 2003.
• Selection of the date of the Annual Meeting – August 21, 2004 Approved.
• Location of the Annual Meeting – We will accept bids at the next EC meeting.

Other Committee Reports

1.       Cross Country - Rick is going to have another series in the fall – one at NTC (National Triathlon Center) in Clermont, one in Boca Raton, maybe Jacksonville (John will check) and two in Miami, plus the championship.  Approved to provide ribbons.

2.       LDR Jan contacted 50 to 60 groups and clubs seeing if they were interested in hosting Associations championships, as of today she has received no responses. Jan will contact RRCA clubs and ask them to join USATF, pointing out the benefits of USATF membership.  She is also, going to contact non sanctioned races encouraging them to sanction their races with USATF.  We approved the concept of holding Association Team LDR championships, distances to be determined with all team members having to be USATF members and of course the championships would require sanctioning.

3.       Youth – Palm Beach, Broward and Dade Tri-County meet qualifier to the State JO’s May 15 ^th.  The State JO’s will be in Tallahassee on June 19^th.  The National JO’s will be in Oregon on July 28 -31.

4.       Track and Field – NTC will be holding a meet every month in the season with many World class athletes coming. They started yesterday. Also there are going to be several clinics at the NTC.  There will be a meet in Boynton Beach April 17^th.  The BAYTAF is to be May .28-30.  The Jacksonville Track Club is going to be holding the 2004 Florida Association Masters Track & Field Championships, the 1 500 m and 3 000 m Southeastern Regional Masters and the Association Open and Masters Race Walking Championships on a May 8^th.

5.       Race Walking (new Handbook being written Nationally) – Association 10 Km was awarded to the Central Florida Walkers and not the FAC-Walkers.  Bob will contact them and try to get things worked out.

6.       VP’s –John is now the Association Web Master. Please send him any and all information.

7.       Officials – Recertification to take place in August and September for the 2004-2008 Olympiad

8.       Miami Marathon –The Association Championship – Medals are needed.  Don has some and will send them to Robin.  Over 7,000 entrees for the Full and the Half is closed.  USATF Florida is going to have a booth (Thanks Kathy and Jan) at the Expo. & USATF membership is required.

 Elections at the next Annual Meeting (Pres., Exec. VP. VP North, VP South, Secretary, Treasurer, 3 Athletes at Large, Men’s T&F, Men’s LDR and Race Walking).  We may need to appoint a nominating committee, at the next meeting.

 Other Business

• Tri-fold brochure put together by Don will be going to press in the next few weeks. 5,000 will be printed.
• Miami-Dade is bidding on the 2007 USATF Outdoor Open and Junior Track and Field championships.  To be decided in February at the Indoor Championships. 
• It was approved to provide medals for all Associations championships in 2004 at the cost of $1 except for the Marathon which will be free.

Date and Location of next meeting will be 11:00AM Sunday, May 16th at the National Triathlon Center in Clermont.
